Colorado considering cash sweepstakes to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) — New correspondence from the governor’s office suggests the state of Colorado may be considering a monetary vaccine lottery program similar to other states.

“Colorado is currently considering a variety of options to encourage more people to get vaccinated,” said spokesperson Shelby Wieman. “Additionally, Colorado is closely following what other states are doing to encourage vaccinations, including Maryland and Ohio’s statewide lotteries for vaccinated residents.”

Our news partners in Denver received word that a vaccine sweepstakes in Colorado could include $1,000 daily prizes and a larger one-time cash reward. They expect the governor to make a public announcement on Tuesday.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, vaccines increased by 28% from May 14 to May 17, the weekend following the announcement of the Vax-a-Million drawings.
