Air Force Thunderbirds to practice air show over Colorado Springs on Tuesday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Air Force Thunderbirds will be roaring back into town next week, and if you want a preview of the aerial team's stunts, just look to the skies above Colorado Springs on Tuesday.
According to a news release from the US Air Force, the Thunderbirds team will arrive in the Springs on Monday, and they'll fly around the Air Force Academy for a site survey at about 11:30 a.m. The team is getting set for the iconic flyover and aerial demonstration at the upcoming Air Force Academy graduation ceremony on Wednesday.
If you can't make it to the ceremony on Wednesday, you can head north on Tuesday to get a glimpse of the fighter planes as they dip, flip, and zip through the skies. The team will start practicing its performance at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the flyover during the graduation ceremony hat toss is expected to start around 12:30 p.m. The full performance will take place immediately after that.
During the air show, the following roads will be closed, according to the Air Force:
- Stadium Boulevard - from Tri-intersection Bridge to Parade Loop
- Community Center Drive - from Stadium Boulevard to E. Douglass Drive
- Academy Drive - from Stadium Drive to the Falcon Club
- The Santa Fe Trail from Tri-intersection Bridge to Parade Loop.
