Gov. Jared Polis responds to Dr. Moma patients COVID-19 vaccine concerns
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Several patients who got vaccinated at the Dr. Moma Health & Wellness Center in Colorado Springs have contacted 13 Investigates seeking answers for health-related questions they say they can't get Colorado health officials to answer.
After pressing state health leaders for more information with no answer, we took those concerns to Governor Jared Polis.
"We have no reason to believe anybody's health in any way was jeopardized by these vaccinations," Polis said.
An investigation into what exactly happened at the Moma clinic is ongoing. The clinic is accused of improper vaccine storage and recordkeeping which led to more than 7,000 vaccines being deemed invalid or wasted.
"We cannot confirm that those doses were effective. Therefore we really strongly recommend that they consider themselves unvaccinated," Polis said. "There's not much else to say. Is there a chance that they received an active dose that was a first dose? There is, but that's not something anybody should bank on."
Moma patients tell 13 Investigates all they get from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment when they ask health-related questions is a prepared statement.
"They have been whipped into shape to say nothing is what the operators have told me ... is that we can't say anything. That they've been told, that they've actually gotten directives from their higher-ups that this is all you can say and you can say nothing more," Sue Aspenson said.
Now, some of the patients are calling for accountability, transparency, and more oversight after their experience at the Moma clinic.
"CDPHE and Moma have absolutely blown their credibility by dropping the ball. By not responding to us. And at this point, we need a federal level of investigation and oversight because something is going on at the state level too for us to even have ended up in this situation in the first place," Kim Aronstam said.
Polis told 13 Investigates his office would provide us a direct state health contact for Moma patients. A spokesperson told us they are working to track down that information.
