Father begs for change on Highway 24 after son dies in fatal crash
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A father who lost his son in a fatal crash back in May is speaking out against aggressive driving.
20-year-old Joshua Landry was killed in a head-on crash near Highway 24 and Log Road on May 21st. The original report from Colorado State Patrol says Landry was trying to pass a vehicle, causing the head-on collision.
His father, Bob Landry says upon further investigation, he believes another car, who left the scene of the accident, pushed Landry's vehicle out of the lane. That driver hasn't been identified.
"Going through the revolution of discovery, initially thinking he made a horrible mistake and trying to reconcile that," Landry explains, "and then to come to the point of discovery it doesn't look like he was at fault. He was in the lane he was supposed to be in, and then apparently he was pushed out of that lane."
CSP could only tell KRDO they are still investigating this crash and who is at fault.
Three months after the crash, Landry is hoping someone comes forward, and more importantly, roads in the area are upgraded with better signage to warn drivers.
"You've got vehicles hurdling at each other at 65 plus miles per hour, distracted drivers, aggressive drivers, and there are very few safeguards in place. There's a double orange line," he explained.
He's calling for extra signage, reduced speeds and more money for the Colorado Department of Transportation to adjust other dangerous spots.
