Colorado Springs man who died in July car crash identified

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — Colorado Springs Police said the county coroner has identified the man who died after a crash in July.

On July 6, before 10:00 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a traffic crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Goddard Street and North Academy Boulevard.

Police said a Subaru was driving southbound on Academy Boulevard and tried to make a left turn at Goddard Street, while a Ford sedan was traveling northbound on Academy Boulevard in the right through lane. The two vehicles crashed in the intersection.

The man in the sedan was taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The next day police officers went to a home on Nora Point near S Rockrimmon Blvd. to investigate a reported dead body.

The 911 caller told officers that her husband had been in the hospital because of injuries sustained in a car crash.

They had just gotten back home from the hospital when he became unresponsive, according to police. Officers learned the man was the same person in the crash on Academy Blvd. the day before.

On August 18, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 85-year-old Ronald Yost and declared his death as a result of the traffic crash.

The driver of the Subaru, 66-year-old Robert Ryan was charged with Vehicles Turning Left. Police said neither excessive speed nor impairment were considered factors in this crash.

Yost is the 24th traffic crash fatality in Colorado Springs in 2020, according to police. At this time in 2019, there were 28 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
