City of Colorado Springs youth fall football and soccer cancelled

Ed Clemente

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – The City of Colorado Springs is cancelling its youth football and soccer seasons for fall 2020.

The decision comes after an announcement on Tuesday by the Colorado State High School Activities Association that football and soccer are delayed until spring 2021.

“This was a really tough decision because we know how much sports benefit and mean to our participants,” Joe Braun, City of Colorado Springs sports program coordinator, said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, our football and soccer programs align so closely with local schools, that the delay to the spring season makes it too difficult for us to run our programs this fall. We thank our participants for their patience, encourage them to stay healthy and active this fall and look forward to seeing them again next season.”

The city’s sports office is offering fall baseball and various sport camps as a way to keep providing players with quality athletics options.

Parents can register their kids for fall baseball right now by clicking here. Registration for fall sport camps is still being determined.

For people who have already registered for fall soccer or football, they can request a refund by contacting the Sports Office at 385-5981x0.

If you do not request a refund, a credit will be placed on your account for use in spring 2021.
