COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Hair salons in Colorado Springs are getting the okay to open back up next week.

On Friday, May 1st, all the three locations of Veda Hair and Salon in Colorado Springs will open back up to customers, but will come with big changes.

"I'm a little nervous. Everything new can be nerve-wracking," says Melea Krabach, the lead hairstylist at the University Village location.

General Manager, Amy Whaley says in addition to their employees wearing masks, they'll be asking customers to wear one as well.

"I think it's a good transition. It's one that we have to make to see what the next step would be," Krabach explains.

Governor Jared Polis announced this week, salons may open back up with "strict precautions."

"Sometimes in nail salons they wear surgical masks but in hair salons, they don't, didn't. They will," Polis explained on Monday.

The salons will be practicing social distancing, and staggering appointments to make sure not too many people are inside at once.

Customers will be asked to wait in their cars until their appointment time, instead of waiting in the lobby.

Some of Veda Salon and Spa employees have opted to wait a few more weeks before returning to work. Either way, Whaley says the employees working will be busy the first weeks of May.

Krabach says, "we are going to have to move people around and see who is comfortable coming in, and going back to work. Who wants to stay home if they live with someone who is high risk? If someone stays home, we 100% support that."
