Fire tears through roof of former Colorado Springs police officer’s home

Leaf Wood Court fire

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Fire Department was called to a new development in the northeast side of town for a large fire at a home.

The house fire was reported at 7053 Leaf Wood Court, which is between Black Forest Road and Vollmer Road.

No injuries have been reported, but emergency dispatch traffic indicated that at least one dog may have died in the fire.

We've since learned that the fire happened at the home of former Colorado Springs Police Officer Chris Brown, who is the brother-in-law of fallen El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick.

Brown co-founded Shield 616, an organization whom KRDO has partnered with on several occasions to provide bullet-resistant armor for law enforcement and firefighters in Pueblo and Colorado Springs.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Brown's family after the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
