Some migrants in El Paso getting asylum court dates in 2027 after being processed

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)- Tuesday morning, ABC-7 saw law enforcement officials handing out fliers to migrants in Segundo Barrio. It encouraged them to turn themselves into border patrol agents for processing.

Some migrants told ABC-7 they went to the nearest processing facility, that was listed on the flyer. They say the process for them was quick and only took one hour.

"We were all very scared.. we went inside they got our data, our fingerprints, and after they gave us our documents," said Jenemar Silva, migrant from Venezuela.

ABC-7 also saw buses being filled with people and taken elsewhere.

"Some buses came to take people so then everybody thought they were being deported and started to run, others stayed and took the 50 50 chance to see what happens," she said.

Silvia said later rumors spread that those people taken on the bus underwent the same process in a different location that had fewer people.

She said after being processed, she found her next court date was listed in Dallas, Texas until April of 2027.

Relieved to now have a court date, she says she's just happy to be able to have come this far.

She said in the meantime, she will look for a job and try to help family back in her country.
