Childhood friend works to help solve Colorado Springs cold case

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A childhood friend of 20-year-old Angie Sicola, who was found dead nine years ago Monday, is working to help solve her case.

Louise Beaumont went to summer camp with Sicola for years, the two forged a close bond. They stayed in touch long after camp.

Beaumont remembers Sicola lighting up a room and having a magnetic personality, saying she was one of a kind.

On May 2, 2013, Sicola's father went to her apartment to pick her up. That's when he found her in what her mother described as "some pretty brutal circumstances."

The Colorado Springs Police Department opened a homicide investigation, but nine years later, the case has since gone cold.

Sicola's autopsy report reveals she was strangled in her apartment, which came as a shock to her friends and family because Sicola was a skilled martial artist. She taught Taekwondo and was about to test for her second-degree blackbelt.

"She's a fighter," Beaumont said. "I know she fought back, and I know she defended herself as best as she could."

Beaumont said Sicola's case has stuck with her all these years, and now, she's ready to help solve it. She started a website with information about Sicola's case, she's selling flags that the community can wave in honor of Sicola, and she's starting a podcast to investigate Sicola's case.

"I'm hoping that bringing her into a podcast, and telling and sharing her story, that people will fall in love with her and want to see this case solved, because ultimately, the more people that we can have backing her, you know, the more chance that we'll find out who did this," Beaumont said.

You can learn more about the flags by clicking here. To purchase a flag, Beaumont asks that you take a photo of it and post it with the hashtag #WaveHerFlag in honor of Sicola.

All proceeds from the flags will go toward the reward fund for anyone who has information that can help lead to an arrest in Sicola's case.
