Marine veteran walks to support Colorado 2-year-old battling cancer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Jim Hickey is on a mission.

So far, the marine veteran and kidney cancer survivor has walked more than 8,500 miles in support of other cancer patients across Colorado, with Saturday's walk being his 7th since he embarked on the journey.

Each walk is designed to raise money, support, and awareness for patients fighting cancer in Colorado.

Saturday's walk benefitted 2-year-old Braxton Hankins, who is battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Despite achieving remission last November, Hankins is still undergoing multiple forms of treatment including chemo, spinal taps, and blood and platelet transfusions at Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.

Phil Long Dealerships supported Hickey on his walk starting Saturday in Motor City in Colorado Springs as he makes his way up to Aurora to the hospital where Hankins is receiving treatment. Phil Long Dealerships contributed to Children’s Hospital Colorado for their Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and donated to a fundraiser for Hankins.
