Early morning snowfall made for a slick commute in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- People in southern Colorado woke up to icy and snow-covered roads for their Monday morning commute.

Marc Rivette said, “All I can say is that if you don’t have an all-wheel drive it’s not good advice to take the road right now."

Chance Green said he saw “black ice and what not, and back roads ... extra slick until the plows can catch up and get them de-iced."

Snowplows began working Sunday night, but with the snow continuing to fall, it was hard for them to keep up.

Dawn Boice said, “Stay home, if you can possibly do that stay home it’s just really nasty and I wouldn’t take the chance if you didn’t the to.”

Unfortunately, Darian Romero wasn’t able to stay home and had a heck of a time trying to get to work.

“I just got stuck at the light and managed to get off the main road, which was nice, but somebody pulled over and had a strap and towed me to the gas station here,” said Romero.

But Romero wasn’t the only one spinning his tires, multiple cars were struggling to gain traction this morning.

At the intersection of North Park and Garden of the Gods, an accident narrowly avoided as a van was trying to get spun around after getting stuck.

The snow stopped by mid-morning as the sun began peeking through clouds.
