Local residents embrace haunting Halloween season with elaborate decor, haunted houses
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Many people across Southern Colorado are feeling the Halloween spirit, and are fully engaging with the holiday.
A lot of homeowners have gone all out to set the scene and ensure a frightfully good time for those going door-to-door on Saturday. KRDO13 has been collecting some of the best haunts across southern Colorado in the Trick-or-Treat Trail Map.
From haunted themes to multi-foot-tall features, these homes have it all. One resident has even turned her entire home into a giant haunted house.
"My husband's been yelling at me for years," Michele Harry said. "We've been doing this for about 30 years. The kids were little. We buy pieces every year and add to it, so there's always something changing."

Over the years, Harry says she's picked up about 70 animatronics and anywhere from 500 to 1,000 side props. On Halloween, the set gets even bigger. Actors come out to help scare the folks walking through, including trick-or-treaters.
"Most of the time, we're chasing them with the candy being like, 'Here take the candy!,' because they're running," Harry said.
Another resident, Blake Sanders, didn't give his house the extreme makeover, but he's definitely in the spirit, building an elaborate piece with two skeletons barfing up toxic waste.
"It's just two fish pond pumps and water," Sanders said. "Then you just use any type of UV dye. The black lights are on it and it just glows in the dark."

Sanders says the skeletons have multiple uses, bringing them back out for other holidays in new costumes.
As Harry prepares to scare trick-or-treaters on Halloween, she says the whole thing is about connecting with the community.
"When I moved here there was one house that put out Halloween stuff, and now everybody's participating," Harry said.
Harry's house is located at 1803 McArthur and is open from 6-9p.m. on October 30 and October 31.
