Witness describes frightening moments during attempted armed robbery at Pueblo Spirit Halloween

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - A shopper who witnessed an attempted armed robbery at a Pueblo Spirit Halloween store says he rushed people to safety after seeing a suspect with a gun.

Zachary Hillin told KRDO13 he spotted the weapon and immediately worried about the safety of other shoppers.

"It's a real traumatic experience. Especially when a gun gets discharged like that. I was scared for everybody else there. Right when I walked outside, my first initial thought was to see if anybody was shot," Hillin said.

Two suspects were arrested Tuesday night following an attempted armed robbery in Pueblo that sparked a multi-county vehicle pursuit across southern Colorado, according to police.

The incident began around 8:23 p.m. Tuesday in the 3200 block of Dillon Drive, where officers responded to reports of an attempted robbery with shots fired. Police determined a man and woman entered Spirit Halloween and attempted to steal merchandise before being confronted by employees.

During the confrontation, another woman brandished a stun gun and tased the woman suspect. As the two suspects fled toward South 29th Street, the man suspect pulled out a handgun and fired a shot into the air.

Dispatchers provided information that directed officers to an apartment complex in the 4700 block of Eagleridge Circle. Officers spotted the suspects leaving the complex in a vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.

The vehicle failed to yield, initiating an authorized pursuit through the City of Pueblo and moving west along Highway 50 toward Canon City. The Colorado State Patrol joined the chase and deployed a tactical device to slow the fleeing vehicle. The pursuit ended at the vehicle's registered address in Williamsburg, located in Fremont County.

Multiple agencies assisted in taking the suspects into custody, including the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, Colorado State Patrol, Fremont County Sheriff's Office, Canon City Police, Florence Police and the Combined Regional Communications Authority.

Authorities identified the suspects as 39-year-old Amber Baca and 21-year-old Isaac Baca. Amber Baca was arrested on an unrelated failure-to-appear warrant involving disorderly conduct with fighting and now faces new charges of aggravated robbery with intent to kill and complicity to commit a crime.

Isaac Baca was arrested for aggravated robbery with intent to kill, vehicular eluding, resisting or interfering with police and harassment.
