EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- El Paso County residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unused, unwanted or expired medications during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement agencies across the Pikes Peak region to provide free and anonymous medication drop-off locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The following locations will accept medications:

  • King Soopers: 7915 Constitution Avenue
  • Widefield Community Center: 715 Aspen Drive

According to law enforcement, no questions will be asked, and residents do not need to pay to dispose of their medications.

What can you bring?

According to EPSO, accepted items include prescription medications such as pills, tablets, capsules and patches. Medications can be brought in their original containers or a bag. Residents are asked to remove or cover any personal identifying information.

Needles, syringes, other sharps and pressurized canisters will not be accepted.

The Sheriff's Office says proper medication disposal helps prevent drug misuse, reduces the risk of accidental ingestion and protects the community and local waterways.
