EPSO announces first-ever substation, currently undergoing construction in Falcon

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) is opening its first-ever substation in Falcon.

The building is still under construction, but KRDO13 got a sneak peek into the new facility. It will be off of Royal County Down Road.

EPSO says once it's finished, it could save law enforcement anywhere from 35 to 40 minutes in travel time, and help improve services in unincorporated parts of El Paso County.

Sheriff Joseph Roybal says it's an area that is seeing rapid growth.

"The anticipated growth of El Paso County is expected to exceed one million residents by 2050," Sheriff Roybal said. "This right here is in anticipation of that growth. Where we are standing today is the largest growing area in unincorporated El Paso County."

According to officials, the substation will give officers access to much needed facilities like holding cells for arrests, a booking area and interview rooms.

EPSO expects the substation to be partially open sometime around January.
