Crowd gathers for ‘No Kings’ voting event in front of Colorado Springs City Hall and Acacia Park

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - A crowd gathered for a 'No Kings' event in Downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday. This time, the tenor was different from past 'No Kings' gatherings.

Organizers with No Kings Colorado Springs told KRDO13 that Saturday was a get-out-the-vote event. In addition to public speakers, volunteers were out gathering signatures for petitions. One petition in particular was in support of a data center moratorium.

KRDO13 caught up with one woman who was gathering signatures who spoke about why events like this are so important.

"The importance of being able to use our voice and that it can be heard, but we just need to know in what ways we can use it. So whether that's voting or signing petitions, you know, just like knowing. About what's going on in our community, it's really important," Angela Alvarado said.

While speakers took center stage in front of City Hall, performers took the stage playing music in neighboring Acacia Park.
