CSU unveils new pump station that will deliver drinking water to around 12,000 customers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) has opened a new pump station it says is a critical part of the water distribution system.

According to CSU, the Star Ranch Pump Station will help deliver drinking water to around 12,000 customers in southwest Colorado Springs.

CSU says pump stations help move the water from treatment plants to individual customers; they say they currently have over 30 pumps in their service area.

The Star Ranch Pump Station replaces the Lower Skyway Pump Station in the Broadmoor Valley, CSU says. That pump was the oldest in the system and was built in 1948. CSU says the pump was built on property CSU bought in 1979 specifically for a pump station, and is in a spot that works better for reliable service from a lower pressure zone to a higher pressure zone.

According to CSU, the design of the building was adjusted based on customer feedback so that it would blend into the design of the neighborhood.

More information on CSU's system can be found on their website.
