Lakewood man receives 12-year sentence for vehicle theft following lengthy criminal history

23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 38-year-old Lakewood man has been sentenced to 12 years after being arrested in Douglas County while driving a stolen vehicle.

According to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office (DA), the suspect, Zachary Fikejs, had 12 prior felony convictions and eight motor vehicle theft convictions.

In July of 2025, the DA says a FLOCK camera alerted law enforcement to Fikejs driving a stolen vehicle. Deputies say they located and arrested him.

The DA says Fikejs has a 17-year criminal history that includes vehicle theft, forgery and drug offenses. Officials say he was previously sentenced to probation, which he allegedly violated six times.

District Attorney George Brauchler said the fact that Fikejs was on the streets in the first place is unacceptable.

“For a 12-time convicted felon who had been revoked from probation multiple times and was on probation when he committed this felony, our Probation Department recommended…. wait for it…. probation,” said Brauchler. “No joke. How often is this happening in courtrooms across the state? Those are the low standards set by places north of us, not in Douglas County, where we expect accountability."
