FEMA says it is giving the funds out through its Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant program, as well as its Fire Prevention and Safety grant program.

The City of Thorton Fire Department received over $1.2 million to help hire firefighters in this round of funding. The other awardees in Colorado include the Elizabeth Fire Protection District and Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
