Colorado Springs police officer injured in downtown attack, suspect on psychedelic drug

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs police officer was injured Monday after being attacked by a man in downtown Colorado Springs. Officers arrested Domenick Biondo on Sahwatch Street and he faces charges for assault on an officer.

Police initially responded to the downtown area after receiving a report about a man acting strangely and harassing people. The Colorado Springs Police Department sent a drone to the area, which located Biondo running down the road before officers made contact with him.

When officers approached Biondo on Sahwatch Street, police said he became combative and injured an officer during the confrontation. Officers were able to place Biondo under arrest at the scene.

Following his arrest, Biondo was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. While at the facility, Biondo told officers he had taken the psychedelic drug DMT.

The officer who was injured in the attack was taken to a local hospital for medical care. The officer was treated for injuries and subsequently released.
