‘Walk to End Alzheimer’s’ to transform mile-long perimeter of Prospect Lake

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Walkers and joggers will be greeted by hundreds of colorful drawings around Prospect Lake this weekend as volunteers spread their message while raising money to fight Alzheimer's.

The Alzheimer's Association hosts walks all across the country. Local volunteers run each event, like the one this weekend at Prospect Lake in Colorado Springs.

The Alzheimer's Association invites the community to its "Chalk the Walk" on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers will use chalk to decorate the entire mile-long sidewalk. The theme this year is "Candy Land."

The walk itself is on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Registration is free. You can also donate here. The Colorado Springs Walk has raised $196,000 of its $280,000 goal, as of Wednesday morning.

As of 2024, over 90,000 Coloradans 65 and older have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. That's over 10 percent of the age group in our state.
