Person caught on camera throwing rock at a Colorado Springs City Councilor’s car

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - It was a rude awakening for Colorado Springs City Councilor Kimberly Gold early Friday morning.

A notification from her Tesla woke her up at 4:00 a.m. and came with a video. A video that showed what looks to be a man running up and launching a rock into her front windshield.

Gold says her car was parked out there ahead of a scheduled maintenance appointment later that day.

After being woken up by the unexpected video, Gold admits she thought the worst. "As a local city council member, coming off the evening of the delay of the Project Taurus vote. I must admit, one of my thoughts was, was this a targeted attack? You know, I also have custom plates on my car. There's lots of Teslas in town, but there's only one Tesla that has a very specific custom plate that is clearly my car."

However, she's hoping that's not the case.

"I really want to lean into that this was a random act and, you know, random or targeted, ultimately vandalizing anybody's vehicle for any reason is not acceptable," Gold said.

At this point, we don't know the cause behind the rock throw. Colorado Springs Police say they are still investigating the act of vandalism:

While the investigation is underway and the cause is still under question, there is a very real cost of replacing a windshield.

"The lowest quote I got today was around $850. And that's because a very generous business had heard about what happened, and they wanted to cut me a better price," Gold said.
