Pikes Peak and Manitou Incline to see closures for upcoming Pikes Peak Ascent and Pikes Peak Marathon

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pikes Peak and the Manitou Incline will see some closures in September for the Pikes Peak Ascent and Pikes Peak Marathon.

According to officials, the Manitou Incline Trail will be closed until noon on Friday, Sept. 19, for the Pikes Peak Ascent. The city says the summit of Pikes Peak will be closed until 1 p.m. for both highway visitors and Pikes Peak Ascent spectators that day because of weather and safety precautions. The North Slope Recreation Area is open at 7:30 a.m.

The next day, the Manitou Incline Trail will be closed all day for the Pikes Peak Marathon. The city says the Pikes Peak summit will not be impacted.

There are also new operating hours for Pikes Peak for the rest of September, and new hours for October through the Thursday before Memorial Day.

For the rest of the month, the uphill gate at Pikes Peak will close at 5 p.m., with the summit closing at 6 p.m. and the downhill gates closing at 7 p.m.

Starting October 1, the new operating hours will be:

• 9 a.m.: Uphill gates open
• 3 p.m.: Last entry
• 4 p.m.: Pikes Peak summit closes
• 5 p.m.: Downhill gates close
