CPW kills another wolf after continued depredation under an observation period

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) says it has lethally removed another wolf after continued depredation recently.

According to CPW, the uncollared female yearling wolf from the One Ear Pack in Grand County was killed after officials noted continued depredation during an evaluation period. That evaluation came from a previous removal on August 4.

CPW says its directive about chronic depredation uses an incremental approach if behavior doesn't change during the observation period. According to officials, during the evaluation in August, CPW confirmed seven depredations by the One Ear Pack.

Before the wolf was lethally removed, CPW says it worked with local producers on a number of nonlethal methods to stop the depredations, including hazing when able and an active human presence.

CPW released information on two other wolves that had been part of lethal removal operations in Pitkin and Rio Blanco counties earlier this week.

A final report on the lethal removal efforts will be available on CPW's website when it is finished.
