Two more wolves killed by CPW following livestock depredation

PITKIN AND RIO BLANCO COUNTIES, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has confirmed two more wolves have died as part of lethal removal operations in Pitkin and Rio Blanco counties.

According to officials, the first killing happened on an uncollared male yearling wolf from the Copper Creek Pack in Pitkin County. CPW says the wolf was as part of guidelines following four confirmed depredation events from July, August and September.

The second killing was of an uncollared male yearling wolf from the Three Creeks Pack in Rio Blanco County, also in line with guidelines after four confirmed depredation events in August and September.

CPW says the depredation events occurred even despite producers looking at non-lethal conflict minimization efforts, and they had met CPW's definition of chronic depredation (three events within 30 days, with at least one having clear and convincing evidence).

In total, 19 wolves have died under CPW's watch since 2023.

According to CPW, a final report on both depredation events will be available on their website when they are finalized.
