Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs to change its name after $40 million gift

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Children's Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs will now be known as Children's Hospital Colorado, Golisano Children's Hospital, Colorado Springs.

The name change comes after a $40 million dollar gift from Tom Golisano expanding care for children and families in Southern Colorado. The hospital says it also joined the Golisano Children's Alliance, a national initiative that helps pediatric healthcare.

The announcement came during an event in front of the hospital on Thursday.

Tom Golisano is an entrepreneur and philanthropist from New York. The Golisano Children's Hospital Alliance includes more than a dozen hospitals across the United States and is dedicated ensuring children and families have access to the highest quality medical attention.

The hospital says the $40 million gift is exclusively for Colorado Springs, and will help with future projects like additional surgical capacity, outpatient and treatment space and inpatient beds. Officials say they also hope it will create facilities to reduce wait times.

The hospital says Golisano was interested in the Colorado Springs hospital because of its dedication to military service and commitment to excellence. He also noted the hospital serves several communities across southern Colorado including rural communities and mountain towns.

Children's Colorado opened its Colorado Springs hospital in 2019 as the region's first pediatric-only hospital. More information on the hospital is available on its website.
