Arvada police release video of bear scavenging through trash cans

ARVADA, Colo. (KRDO) -- A bear was caught on camera looking for a late night snack in some trash cans in Arvada.

The Arvada Police Department (APD) released video of a bear trying to open some trash cans and search for food. Luckily for the owners of the cans, they were tightly secured and the bear wasn't able to get in.

APD says it's another reminder as bears start to prepare for hibernation to keep any food sources safely locked in bear-resistant containers. Officials remind residents to leave pet food inside, and make sure to clean any grills after use.

If a bear is near a home, APD says to give them plenty of room and make sure it has a way to escape. They say when bears learn there is a food source, they will remember to go back, so avoiding feeding them will help everyone.
