Colorado State Patrol searching for person who crashed stolen car into a woman’s driveway, then fled on foot

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - Just after midnight on Friday, August 14, Llynda Schulze was woken up by a phone call from her neighbor across the street telling her to go outside.

A car had crashed into a vehicle parked in her driveway.

"It was like one of my worst fears came true, because I've always had that worry with living at the house at the 'T' of the intersection," Schulze told KRDO13.

A check of her home security camera showed it all. A car blew through the stop sign at Morningside Drive and Rosemont Drive, slamming into Schulze's car and a neighbor's car. Then a person was seen getting out and running.

"I always had this fear, and I hope it would never happen because we all have those fears, don't we? You know, so then actually having it come true, at least it didn't hit our house," Schulze said.

In the nearly 14 years her family has lived in that house, Schulze has never had this happen. She's even taken steps to prevent it. On a street with no lights, they've put up street lights on their property to show drivers where the houses are on the street.

However, on Friday night those lights didn't help. The end result, Schulze says, is what looks like a couple thousand dollars of damage to her yard and car. The crash also took out a large snowball bush.

The person responsible for the damage is nowhere to be found.

Colorado State Patrol says a trooper tried to stop a suspected stolen vehicle and was following the vehicle when it blew through the stop sign and into the Schulzes' driveway. The license plate was reported stolen and did not match the suspect vehicle.

After crashing, the driver then fled on foot. CSP says no arrests were made that night or since in connection with this incident.

CSP says the investigation is still ongoing to determine the driver of the suspect vehicle.
