Colorado Springs Airport to hold full-scale emergency response exercise

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Airport and other agencies will conduct a full-scale emergency response exercise on Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Airport officials are advising the public that increased emergency vehicle and personnel activity will be visible during the exercise. Smoke and flames may also be seen on the northwest side of airport property, according to officials.

Officials emphasize that there is no actual emergency. The airport says the exercise will not affect flight operations.

The drill is being conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations, which require airports to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise every three years.

Other agencies involved, according to the airport, will be the City of Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs Fire Department, Colorado Springs Police Department, and the Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management.
