Colorado Springs announces new Homelessness Response Team, update on citywide strategy

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Mayor Yemi Mobolade announces a new Citywide Homelessness Response Team to strengthen coordination and accountability across departments.

The team brings together 15 different city departments and divisions involved in homelessness response to coordinate strategy and response across several priorities, according to the mayor.

The city says this includes enforcement, cleanup, outreach, shelter, housing and supportive services, and employment.

The groups involved include the following, according to city officials:

  • Mayor’s Office
  • Housing and Homelessness Response
  • Colorado Springs Police Department
  • Colorado Springs Fire Department
  • Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services
  • Neighborhood Services
  • Municipal Court
  • Public Works
  • Mountain Metro Transit
  • Stormwater Enterprise
  • Planning
  • Pikes Peak Office of Emergency Management

According to officials, the goal is to make homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring in Colorado Springs.

The city also provided an update on its Homelessness Response Action Plan, which is a five-year initiative that was launched in November 2024. The plan includes 61 action items, including enforcement and cleanup, street outreach and shelter, homelessness prevention, employment, housing and supportive services, and collaboration and information.

Some of the actions completed from the plan so far, according to the city, have been raising money to expand winter shelter capacity and advancing around 3,000 affordable housing units throughout the community.
