Missing iguana, Juana, returned home safely to Fountain

Fountain, Colo. (KRDO) -- An iguana that was stolen in Fountain has been returned home.

Cassandra Estrada's beloved pet, Juana, went missing Friday after escaping her apartment while she was at work. A video of the iguana walking around made it to Facebook, where Estrada says an unknown woman made a poster to come pick up Juana.

KRDO13 reported on the iguana right after she was first reported missing on Saturday.

The woman's story was her ex-husband let the pet out, but Estrada says that's not true, and she spent the next several days searching for Juana. Adding to Estrada's concern was that Juana is pregnant with infertile eggs. That means the eggs won't produce baby iguanas, but could come with fatal complications if Juana wasn't properly cared for.

At the time, Estrada says she filed a report with the Fountain Police Department, which they confirmed with KRDO13 on Saturday.

Estrada says Juana was returned home safely Monday night.

"From the bottom of my heart, I am truly grateful for all the support and hard work you have all put into making it happen," Estrada said in a Facebook post. "I can now rest assured that my baby is safe and well where she rightfully belongs!"
