Over 20 planes diverted to Colorado Springs after Denver severe weather, prompt medical response

UPDATE: The Colorado Springs Airport confirmed 22 flights were diverted from Denver International Airport Monday night. Original reports said 29 flights were diverted. Officials say the first flight arrived around 4:40 p.m. and the last diverted flight arrived around 8 p.m. All flights had left by 10 p.m.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Almost 30 aircraft were diverted from Denver International Airport to the Colorado Springs Airport on Monday after severe weather, prompting emergency medical responses for several of them, according to airport officials.

Officials say 29 aircraft, including 25 domestic commercial flights and four international commercial flights, had to land at the Colorado Springs Airport after severe weather in the Denver area. Multiple flights had heavy turbulence, and passengers on several flights reported medical concerns.

Airport officials say those medical concerns were evaluated by emergency medical personnel, and one person was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Five total passengers had been seen by first responders as of 8:45 p.m.

Officials say the Colorado Springs Fire Department will keep personnel and other emergency response resources at the airport as additional diverted flights are expected to arrive.
