Man released from hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the leg

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man is recovering from injuries after accidentally shooting himself in the leg over the weekend.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says it responded to a call around 11:50 a.m. of a reported shooting at 2030 Dortmund Dr. Officials say the reporting party said an unknown suspect had shot him while walking around the area.

CSPD says it located the victim sitting in a chair in the parking lot of the apartment complex with a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers say they provided medical assistance and transported him to a local hospital.

Additional officers arrived on scene and were unable to find where the victim had been shot, but located a car belonging to him in the parking lot, officials say. They say they found a firearm inside the car in plain view.

CSPD says they later determined the victim had accidentally shot himself and was not shot by another person. The man has been released from the hospital.
