Several flooded streets in Colorado Springs after heavy rain

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Heavy rain and storms passing through Colorado Springs earlier left some drivers stranded and looking some help.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded to a call after a car drove through a flooded intersection.

The car was on 8th Street and Moreno Avenue when it was stranded. CSFD says there were several flooded intersections throughout the city after heavy rain and storms passed through.

"We could’ve went to Walmart and got a kayak and put it in here," Brian Lichtle, who witnessed the flooded car, said.

He says he offered to help push a stranded car out of the water and get it off the road.

One potential culprit for the 8th Street flooding, Lichtle said, could have been the construction sandbags blocking off some of the drains.

A few hours later, most of the rain seemed like it had drained but CSFD warned drivers to remain aware.

The rule we hear every time from emergency crews: turn around, don't drown. It is never safe to drive or walk into flood waters. CSFD is getting a little more specific in its advice, and warning drivers that only 12 inches of water could sweep your car away.
