False positive in Taylor Farms cyclospora outbreak, still under investigation, FDA says

WASHINGTON D.C. (KRDO) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says a recent positive result for cyclospora from a Taylor Farms facility in Mexico was a false positive.

According to CNN, health officials are still confident that the outbreak originated from Taylor Farms' iceberg lettuce, despite the false positive. The FDA said the false positive did not change the basis of the ongoing investigation into Taylor Farms, CNN said.

Officials say the positive result originally came in on July 18, a day after Taylor Farms de Mexico said they were voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the U.S. market.

The recall included lettuce that had been shipped to 27 states. The recall also included any Taco Bell locations that had received shipments from Taylor Farms de Mexico, according to the FDA.

The Taylor Farms facility in Colorado Springs has not been connected to the outbreak.

The FDA says there have been no confirmed positive samples as of July 19.
