STATEWIDE, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Rocky Mountain Field Division (RMFD) says one in every six fentanyl pills seized in the U.S. to date this year have been from their office.

According to the DEA, the division, which consists of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana, has seized over 3.2 million fentanyl pills and over 90 kilograms of fentanyl powder since the first day of 2026.

In Colorado alone, around 2.5 million fentanyl pills were seized and 80 kilograms of fentanyl, according to the DEA. That is the most of any state in the division. The administration says in 2025, one of every ten fentanyl pills seized in the U.S. was in Colorado.

"While fentanyl powder is both prevalent and being seized in larger quantities across the U.S., the I-25 and I-70 corridors are building a reputation as fentanyl pill super highways," DEA RMFD Special Agent in Charge David Olesky said in a press release.

According to the DEA, two milligrams of fentanyl is considered a lethal dose, roughly the size of the tip of a pencil.

The amount seized by the division so far this year accounts for roughly one in every six seized nationally. So far this year, the DEA has seized almost 19 million fentanyl pills and over 7,900 pounds of fentanyl powder.
