Colorado’s new Front Range Passenger Rail train may get second stop in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Front Range Passenger Rail District (FRPR) released a new draft plan for the Colorado Connector (CoCo).

According to FRPR, the new plan introduces several recommendations for the southern Colorado area, including a potential second station in north Colorado Springs.

The plan also says it will nearly double the annual local return to Colorado Springs from $3.5 million to $6.6 million annually for connectivity and operations, according to officials.

CoCo's name was chosen after a vote that more than 25,000 Colorado residents participated in. FRPR says CoCo is a planned intercity passenger train for Colorado's Front Range that would connect 12 cities between Fort Collins and Pueblo.

According to officials, the first phase of the train will start in 2029 in the northern part of the route, before extending to the southern parts of the state. The new plan says service will start in Colorado Springs and Pueblo in 2032.

The new plan would also move the downtown Colorado Springs platform to the east side of the tracks to provide easier access to downtown, according to FRPR. Officials say the plan lays out a formal commitment to service in Colorado Springs and Pueblo within five years of funding, as well as highlighting the downtown areas of both cities.
