Kidnapping in Pueblo prompts RV pursuit, ends in flames

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - The Pueblo Police Department rescued a child and other passengers from a burning RV late Wednesday night, following a police chase that originated from a reported kidnapping.

Police identified John Delira-Alires as the driver of the RV.

Officers pursued Delira-Alires for approximately one mile after he drove away from a convenience store, refusing to stop following a kidnapping call, according to officials. No injuries were reported among those involved.

The chase ended on Troy Avenue, where officers performed a pursuit intervention technique.

This action caused the RV to roll onto its side and subsequently catch fire right in front of neighbor Leon Sedillos' home.

Sedillos described the intense scene as sirens grew louder, leading to a crash.

“The sirens got closer and closer and then I just heard like a big ol' crash,” Sedillos said. He quickly ran outside to witness the emergency unfolding. “I just ran outside. I'm like, oh...there's cops. Obviously, there's a fire, there's a fire!”

The scene at the intersection of 11th and Troy still shows tire marks from where the chase ended.

Sedillos also recounted hearing about children in the vehicle. “I heard that there's kids in there... that's mind-blowing to me.”

Police confirmed that the suspect, Delira-Alires, knew the child who was rescued.

As a precaution, neighbors tell us police quickly instructed them to water their grass and trees to prevent the flames from spreading beyond the vehicle. Luckily, the fire remained contained to the RV.
