Pilot seriously injured in Douglas County helicopter crash

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to a downed aircraft near Crow Drive and Cheyenne Drive around 8 a.m. on July 13.

According to officials, the first person to reach the crash site found a pilot alive but with serious injuries. The 65-year-old pilot was airlifted to the hospital; no one else was in the helicopter, according to DCSO.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed the aircraft, which was single seat ultralight-weight helicopter, took off from the Lake George area around 7:30 a.m.

DCSO confirms the crash occurred on a dirt road and that there was a gas leak that has since been cleared.

Officials confirm that the NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.
