Pueblo business offers free food, Wi-Fi to wildfire victims

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A local business in Pueblo is providing assistance to anyone who has been impacted by the wildfires in Southern Colorado.

1129 Spirits and Eatery on the Pueblo Riverwalk is providing free food, Wi-Fi and a place to gather for those affected by the Aspen Acres Fire. The restaurant is also accepting donations for firefighters and individuals impacted by the fires.

The restaurant's efforts are led by owner Jennifer Priest, who aims to give back to the Pueblo community after it supported her following the death of her son, Jordan. This initiative provides a central location for those displaced, or in need of assistance during the ongoing fires.

“Our hearts go out and whatever we can do to get back, if it's a meal today or tomorrow, whatever it is, if it's, you know, being a donation location for water, for the firefighters, whatever we can do to get back, we are all in,” Priest said.

Kayla Muñoz, manager of 1129 Spirits and Eatery, shared a similar sentiment, highlighting the restaurant's gratitude for being able to assist.

“Right now, being in a position to help, that just makes us feel extremely blessed,” Muñoz said. “And honestly, we couldn't be in a position to help right now if our community wasn't here supporting us.”

Priest emphasized that despite struggles in the local economy, the business prioritizes community support over profit. “There's no amount of money that is worth the healing of others. No amount of money to help somebody in their time of need,” Priest said. “This business is not for pure profit. This business is to give back to the community.”

1129 Spirits and Eatery will open daily at 10 a.m. all week to provide aid and accept donations.
