Southern Colorado preps for more severe weather after hail storm tears through neighborhoods

SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo. (KRDO) - Southern Colorado is grappling with widespread damage to residential roofs and plants following a severe storm that struck on Monday.

Local roofing companies are currently inspecting the extensive damage while simultaneously preparing for more severe weather anticipated in the forecast.

On some streets in Security-Widefield, multiple houses show signs of compromised roofs, indicated by leaves from trees having been pelted with hail, according to a local roofing company, Centerline Roofing. This damage precedes additional severe storms expected across the region, prompting local businesses to accelerate their readiness.

In response to the weather outlook, Centerline Roofing is taking proactive steps. Bradley Hosler, a representative for the company, explained their preparations. “We're fueling up our trucks,” Hosier said. “We're making sure that we have all of the equipment that we need in our trucks ready tonight so that if anything does hit tonight, we're ready for tomorrow.”

Local homeowner Rose Rogers shared her experience of the storm's intensity. “It just came down really, really hard,” Rogers said, adding, “Too fast for us to come down and cover it all.”

The powerful storm notably shredded plants in her yard and others. Rogers described the state of her plants, stating, “They were a lot fuller than this. A lot. All the stems got broken. I'm just hoping that they can come back and blossom.”

Rogers says she plans to cover her plants before Tuesday evening's storm to prevent further damage.
