Arrests made in connection to 2025 homicide on New Year’s Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Colorado Springs Police say two suspects have been arrested in connection with a homicide on Jan.1, 2025.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting in the 5800 block of Oakwood Boulevard on the northeast side of Colorado Springs. Officers found an adult woman with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene. The El Paso County coroner identified the victim as 35-year-old Andrea Martinez.

Following an 18-month investigation, CSPD says detectives obtained warrants for 27-year-old Brandy Cantu and 22-year-old Ricky Gomez on June 17. Cantu was charged with second-degree murder. Gomez was charged with accessory to a crime and tampering with physical evidence.

The next day, June 18, CSPD says its Violent Offender Fugitive Taskforce arrested Cantu and booked her into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

CSPD says the investigation into Andrea Martinez's death is ongoing.
