Police search for driver who left hit-and-run scene in Woodland Park

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Woodland Park Police Department is searching for a man accused of a hit-and-run involving a 13-year-old boy.

The accident happened on March 25 near the Centennial and Apache Trails near Highway 67. The boy was crossing the street when he was hit, and was thrown off his bike.

"All of a sudden, I was on my way there, and then boom," Kobi Heyen, the teenage boy, told KRDO13.

His bike was mangled, and he says the driver didn't stick around once he saw Kobi's injuries.

"I went up to the door and I said, 'What the heck are you doing?' Kobi said, 'Well you need to be careful next time.' I went to pick up my bike after I showed him my injuries on my elbow, and I went to pick up my bike and he just zoomed off."

Kobi was later taken to the hospital and has since been released. His mother, Brenda, wants to find the man who hurt her son.

"It makes you angry," Brenda said. "It makes you frustrated. Why would you hit a kid, when you're an adult, and you see that he has injuries - that he's bleeding - and you take off when you see blood on him. And... he didn't care."

The driver is described as a white male between 40-50 years old with graying hair and a brown beard. Police say he was driving a white, silver, or gray truck, possibly a Chevy Silverado. If you have any information, you're asked to contact the Woodland Park Police Department at 719-687-9262.

The Woodland Park Police Department released a statement on Facebook, which you can read here.
