Police: Skyway Park Elementary threat involved BB gun

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) announces that the weapon a student brought and allegedly threatened Skyway Park Elementary School staff with was a BB Gun, made to look like a replica handgun.

Police responded to the school on Monday, March 31, around 1:21 p.m. for reports of a student brandishing a weapon at staff members on school grounds.

Police say the student ran from campus before officers arrived, prompting a shelter-in-place in the surrounding area. Nearby schools were also placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Officers were able to locate the student a short time later and safely recover the weapon.

According to the police, the incident is still under investigation.
