Colorado Springs leaders and police play April Fool’s Day pranks

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- From city leaders to police, Colorado Springs is getting in on the April Fool's Day fun with a wave of creative pranks across social media.

The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department teased a fictional new attraction at Garden of the Gods. The post described a “lazy river-style, geologically tantalizing experience.”

The idea promised visitors a chance to float past the park’s iconic red rock formations while staying cool during warmer months, offering what it called a “never-before-seen vantage point.”

Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade also joined in on the jokes, announcing a fake “original series” with Netflix.

In the post, Mobolade said the show would focus on his experience as the city’s first Black, immigrant, and independent mayor, adding that a second season is already in the works.

Meanwhile, the Colorado Springs Police Department introduced its “newest officer,” Tacticat, as part of a fictional “Feline Unit.”

According to the department, Tacticat specializes in stealth operations, especially hiding in cardboard boxes, and precision strikes targeting unsuspecting ankles. CSPD says their new “officer” has been tasked with handling unauthorized snacks, suspiciously dangling shoelaces, and unattended cups of water.

While the announcements are not real, the laughs are, as local agencies lean into the annual tradition of lighthearted pranks.
