DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) - Officials with Infinity Events say they are bringing a new cycling race to Colorado which they say will welcome athletes from across the globe to the Centennial State.

Dubbed "Tour of Colorado," the event is slated for September 2026. Officials say it will be the first time a global, top-level cycling event will be in Colorado in roughly 6 years.

“There is no better state to train and compete in than Colorado. I am excited to watch the 2026 Tour of
Colorado stage race, which gathers cyclists from across the world to compete at the highest level in the Rocky Mountains," said Governor Jared Polis in a release. "This exciting event brings spectators from around the globe, bolstering Colorado’s outdoor recreation economy and highlights why Colorado is the best state for all athletes."

The event will encompass five different stages showcasing a variety of terrain locations across Colorado, officials say. However, they have not yet announced what specific city (or cities) will host the event.

"We have some tough and amazing climbs that will challenge the best riders. I hope the Tour of Colorado can inspire many to follow our sport more closely or, even better, start riding their bike themselves," said 2023 Vuelta a España winner, Sepp Kuss, in a release.

Officials say they will announce race dates and routes before the end of this year.
