DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) - Thursday morning, it appeared that Del Taco was closing all locations in Colorado.

KRDO13 visited the locations in Colorado Springs Thursday and found the letter shown above taped to the door of one of the restaurants. The letter says that as of Feb. 27, 2025, all Colorado Del Taco locations are closed until further notice.

Thursday evening, Del Taco issued a statement to KRDO13 clarifying that the Denver and Colorado Springs locations are temporarily closed and will be opened "as soon as possible." Del Taco also said the location in Grand Junction is still open and is operated by a different franchisee than the Front Range locations.

This is the full statement from Del Taco:

“Del Taco is proud to have been serving the state of Colorado since 2003 and we appreciate the ongoing support of our loyal guests. At this time, our Denver and Colorado Springs franchise locations are temporarily closed. We will re-open these locations as soon as possible and will share updates as they become available. The Del Taco location in Grand Junction is owned and operated by a different franchisee and remains open for business. Thank you for your patience and support.”

Court documents obtained by KRDO13 show the franchisee of the 18 impacted restaurants, Newport Venture, recently ran into financial issues.

Documents say Del Taco hopes either they (the corporation), or another franchisee, will take control of the properties so they can "step in immediately to work to retain and pay employees at the locations at a cost to someone other than the bankruptcy estate, which will in turn result in less hardship on those frontline employees who suddenly find themselves jobless."

Documents filed by lawyers representing Del Taco also allege the franchisee failed to pay the corporation $125,000 that they owed by Oct. 17.
