Motorcyclist hit by tire on I-25 identified; Friends grieve loss of Herry Rangingisan
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The El Paso County Coroner has confirmed the identity of a man who was killed after being hit in the head by a tire that came loose and flew off a car along Interstate 25 on Sunday morning.
That man was identified as 59-year-old Herry "Rang" Rangingisan. According to state troopers, the driver of the Subaru, who lost the tire from their vehicle, could now be facing charges.
Colorado State Patrol (CSP) says the crash occurred at 8:56 a.m. on Sunday along Interstate 25, near milepost 154 which is just south of Northgate. The driver was traveling in the opposite direction of the Interstate, when the front left tire came loose, bouncing and then rolling before striking Rangingisan in the head.
CSP described the incident as "unusual and unfortunate circumstances", and is still investigating what happened.
Close friends of Rangingisan say that the 59-year-old was the Vice President of the Harley Davidson Club Indonesia USA. Photos shared with KRDO13 show him with other members of the club and was a friend to many.
A Facebook Live video that was posted on Rangingisan's profile on Sunday morning, shows him with fellow riders at a gas station, just under 40 minutes before the tragic crash happened.
