Teller Co. Sheriff’s Office says assault victim is not deceased but in critical condition

TCSO

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - The Teller County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) reported Wednesday morning that both they and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were conducting a homicide investigation after a woman died Wednesday following an assault near Cripple Creek.

Later Wednesday afternoon, the TCSO said the victim was actually in "extremely critical condition." Additionally, the sheriff's office said a miscommunication led to the initial report that the victim was deceased.

Wednesday morning, the TCSO said they received a call just before 1 a.m. Wednesday reporting that a woman and her dog had been violently assaulted in a camper near Cripple Creek. That woman was transported to a hospital, where she eventually died from the injuries sustained in the attack, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said they are monitoring the victim's status closely and will provide updates.
